EU Accession

Our prior work in Central and Eastern Europe was in various phases. In the late 80s and 90s we supported countries like Poland to transition from former Soviet rule to modern democracies preparing them for EU accession with foreign direct investment through privatisation, infrastructural investment & industry transformation.

Our work was with all national Government ministries and agencies, major development banks and a wide variety of inward investing companies like Daewoo, Volvo, Volkswagen, Citibank, Sprint and GE Capital, for example.

We worked across the national economy in many different industry sectors in 16 Cities. As a consequence of work of this type, in this period, the economy of Poland, for example, trebled in GDP.

Later, we worked on other economic transformation projects in 20 countries of Central and Eastern Europe from the Baltics to the Balkans.

Diversification from Oil Economy

In the late 90s we were asked to re-imagine the economy of Bahrain taking into account developments within the whole of its surrounding region in the Arab Gulf. The requirement was to transition from an oil dependent economy to a diversified economy attractive to foreign direct investment.

Reporting directly to the Bahrain Minister of Finance and National Economy, we worked with all Government Ministers and ministry staff, key national institutions, leading banks and the largest to smallest of industry, in order to create the National Economic and Industrial Strategy.

This led to wholesale institutional and national reforms. We recommended creation of  the Economic Development Board and in the mid 00s, we gave further advice and drafted Vision 2030 across all segments of the economy on behalf of the Crown Prince, now Prime Minister.

We conceptualised and created business plans for a wide variety of sectors of the new economy, which included what became known as the Financial Harbour, nowadays the centrepiece of what is still the largest financial centre in the Middle East.

In this period, GDP quadrupled.

In the following years, much has happened in the diversification of the Bahrain economy, including the $2 billion investment in Formula One Track build and property development which now attracts 7 million visitors each season. And our recommendations for the private healthcare, health property and health tourism have been enacted and led to a multibillion dollar industry.
